Chateau de Cazeneuve, Pic Saint Loup, Languedoc, stock photography samples, by Per Karlsson, BKWine — This is only a selection of samples. Use Image SEARCH to find more photos — Chateau de Cazeneuve is a wine estate in the Pic Saint Loup district in the Languedoc region in the south of France. The winery belongs to André Leenhardt who bought it in the 1990s. The chateau itself is an old building with roots back to the 9th century. It is mentioned in an old document from 820 under the name Casanova.
The vineyards extend over 35-40 hectares on the plains and hillsides of the beautiful Pic Saint Loup sub-region in the northern Languedoc. It is dominated by the Pic St Loup pointed mountain and by the Massif de l’Hortus rock formations. The majority of the wine production is red wine but they also make some white wine. The vineyards are planted with a range of grape varieties: mostly syrah and grenache, with some mourvèdre, cinsault and carignan for the red wine, roussanne, viognier, grenache blanc, marsanne and some others in small quantities for the whites.
The vineyards are cultivated according to organic principles. The climate is generally dry and hot on an altitude of between 150 and 400 meters. There are two types of soil: clay-limestone and more porous limestone. The vinification in the winery is a mix of traditional and modern. There are shining stainless steel fermentation tanks as well as a vaulted old stone cellar where the wine is aged in oak barrels.
Chateau de Cazeneuve produces a range of wines: Les Calcaires, Le Blanc, Le Sang du Calvaire, and Le Roc des Mates.
