Le Cellier des Princes is the only wine co-operative in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation in the Rhone Valley in the south of France. You can find them on the Route d’Orange just outside the town of Courthezon. The cooperative dates back to 1924, at the time of the creation of the appellation system.
The cooperative Cellier de Princes brings together 240 winegrowers and represents a total vineyard area of 650 hectares. They produce wines from the appellations Chateauneuf du Pape, Cotes du Rhone (most wine producers in Chateauneuf also make Cotes du Rhone wines), Gigondas, Ventoux etc. They also do some muscat and sparkling wines. As many traditional and bigger producers do they also sell wine “en vrac”: you arrive with your own bottle/tank/container and fill it up at their pump.
The location of the winery is perhaps not the most romantic, along one of the Routes nationals, but you have a beautiful view of the Mont Ventoux at the back. There is a big wine shop where you can stock up on their full range of wines.
