Use Image SEARCH to find more photos — Domaine Canet Valette is a winery in the Saint Chinian district in the Languedoc region in the south of France. It is in the Cessenon sur Orb village at the foot of the Herault mountains, a rugged landscape, hot and dry in summer, cold and windy in winter. Here you are surrounded by the Languedoc garrigue, the bush vegetation of herbs and aromatic plants (thyme, rosemary, laurel etc) that also gives its character to the wines of the Languedoc. Marc Valette took over an old family vineyard in 1992 and decides to make his own wine, from his own wine estate, in his own winery, instead of leaving the grapes to the cooperative.
The Domaine Canet Valette vineyards are planted with the traditional and typical Languedoc grape varieties: grenache, carignan, syrah, mourvedre and cinsault. The soil is poor and stony, mainly clay and limestone based. Since 1999 the vineyards are certified organic “Ecocert”. The winery is equipped with stainless steel fermentation tanks with floating caps. Some of the wines are given a period of aging in oak barrel.
Domaine Canet Valette makes several different wines; Antonyme from mourvèdre, and cinsault on clay and calcareous soil; Ivresses from 90% grenache and a little bit of syrah and mourvèdre and very low yields; Une et Mille Nuits from five grape varieties, grenache, carignan, syrah, mourvèdre and cinsault and with a long period of aging in large barrels and vats; Maghani, the top of the range, with barrique ageing, from selected grenache and syrah, plus mourvèdre.
